James Charles is not thrilled with the celebrityshout out site, Cameo.
Over the weekend, he took to Twitter to slamthe app and accused them of trying to profit off of the Coronavirus.
What’s up y’all? It’s Emile Ennis Jr.
here with Clevver Newsand it looks like James Charles is involved with some more online drama, but this timeit’s not with another influencer, it’s with an entire website.
On Saturday, he tweeted, lashing out at theapp Cameo.
For those who don’t know, Cameo is a platformwhere celebrities can communicate with their fans by making them a video.
For a variety of fees spanning from $10 to$1000 depending on the celebrity, fans can purchase a personalized video message fromtheir favorite celeb.
They’ve got athletes, reality stars, musicians, actors, YouTubers, and more.
It’s a perfect graduation present or birthdaygift for a superfan friend.
The videos look a little something like thisone from Jerry who was on the Netflix show, Cheer.
Seems all fine and dandy right? Well, not exactly.
James posted a screenshot of an email he allegedlyreceived from Cameo in a since deleted tweet.
The email said quote, “Hey James, Hope you’rehome and staying safe amid all the craziness happening in the world! I don’t know if your events have been affectedby the pandemic, but we’ve seen a growing number of talent joining Cameo to stay connectedwith fans from the safety of their homes, while also having an additional revenue streamas things get postponed.
” And James was not happy with the fact thatthe company was trying to capitalize off this global pandemic.
He took to Twitter to share his thoughts.
James wrote quote, “Hi @BookCameo I’veasked you privately to stop emailing me and now I’m going to do it publicly! I interact with my fans for free every daybecause it’s my job and I love them! Your website that charges for that is patheticand so is your email pitch to profit off a deadly virus.
” I want to know what you guys think of this.
Are you with James on this one? Do you think they were trying to make moneyoff the coronavirus? Or do you think that Cameo was just doingtheir job and reaching out? Get that conversation started down in thecomments below.
And some fans agreed with James.
One person took to Twitter and said quote, “I love how they word it like they’re sooooo great helping influencers have a secondstream of income like they aren’t profiting majorly off it or anything lol plus the wholeidea behind cameo is gross and conceded” And James actually replied to this fan sayingquote, “The whole website concept is disgusting and I’ve avoided discussing it because Idon’t want to shade any of the influencers that do choose to use it but this email sentme over the edge” But others disagreed with James completely.
One person wrote quote, “I’m so confusedwhy is @BookCameo disgusting? Fans are guaranteed personal shoutouts fromtheir favorite creators.
Everything is shutting down so fans can’tgo to their favorite sports game or any meet and greets because they are canceling so thismight be a good thing!” And another said quote, “Yes the emailsare of poor taste and they shouldn’t be bothering you if you’ve asked them to stop.
But how is paying for a personalized videofrom an influencer disgusting when you yourself charge for meet and greets? What’s the difference” And they make some good points! I’m really curious to know what you guysthink of all this! But James wasn’t only calling out Cameothis weekend, he was working on a pretty exciting project that drops this Friday.
He did the queen of Tik Tok, Charli D'Amelio’s, makeup! And Charli star shared a preview of theircollab on her Instagram story on Saturday.
On the story she wrote quote, “video comingfriday… @jamescharles.
” And fans can’t wait! One person wrote quote, “anyone else excitedfor the Charli DAmelio and James Charles collab? cuz it's currently the only thing gettingme through this quarantined week.
Friday plz come sooner.
” And another added that quote, “OMG Jamesdid Charli's makeup you guys!!! She's already so beautiful but with James'smakeup skills she's going to look NEXT LEVEL” And we agree! We can’t wait to watch their collab thisFriday.
I’m sure we will be getting plenty of TikTok content from them too! But I want to know what you guys think.
